RECAP the FLAG. Common Cause

During the 2008 election cycle, Common Cause and our supporters led an effort to get congressional candidates to commit to fighting abuses of power by signing a pledge to Recapture the Flag. Using the map below, search for your local congressional candidates from the last election to see whether they took the pledge.  (The pledge language appears below the map.)

Candidate Pledge

If elected, I pledge to Renew America’s Promise:

* I promise to end torture, respect human rights, and restore America’s reputation in the world.

* I promise to respect the rule of law and to fiercely challenge anyone who seeks to undermine the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

* I promise to root out corruption, special interest abuses and partisan prejudice in the administration of justice.

* I promise to hold to account – without exception – anyone who breaks the law or violates the public trust.

* I promise to protect personal freedom by rejecting warrantless spying, stifling of dissent, and other affronts to individual liberty.

Click here to see the list of candidates who have signed (and the ones who have refused to sign) the pledge.

If you are a congressional candidate and you're ready to take the pledge, please contact us at pledge@commoncause.org.
